Yes or No? An Educational Tablet for a Toddler

In today's world, we function in an environment that bombards us with stimuli from almost every direction. Mobile phones, television, advertising screens… Probably everyone at times has felt overwhelmed and tired after visiting a shopping mall – this is due to the loud music, decor in intense colors, strong lighting. All this contributes to increased stress levels and affects not only our well-being but also the functioning of the brain, which struggles to process such a quantity of stimuli.

It's worth considering the still-developing brain of a child, which similarly reacts to significantly less stimulation. For a child, a large amount of inappropriate stimuli can have really serious and unequivocally negative consequences. (Read more about brain overstimulation by multimedia devices [link to article]). Is it worth spending a large sum of money on a tablet or mini-laptop, which might teach our child the names of colors, but at the same time be another source of stimulation, of which there is already too much in the surrounding world? Of course, every parent should assess this independently. The age of the child plays an important role: a valuable educational game can be an enhancement to learning for a twelve-year-old, but does a three-year-old need encouragement to play?

It's worth mentioning the results of studies conducted by scientists from the University of Newcastle on a group of 11,000 men and women born in 1958. The results collected over many years unequivocally indicated a correlation between high parental involvement in raising a child and spending quality time with them, and their better coping in both professional and private life in adulthood. The time a child spends with a tablet or computer almost always means time without any interaction with other people.
